The shorter days and cooler temperatures are a sure sign that Autumn has arrived. As you ride around you notice that fall decorating often focuses on the front of our homes, from doorsteps full of mums and gourdes, to an array of skeletons and haunted inflatables adorning front yards. But as our leisure time activities move indoors, we begin to think about how we can cozy up our living spaces, making them more welcoming for the colder winter weather ahead. See our list of easy fall decorating ideas and ways to ready for the season.

Blankets, an obvious start but you can never have too many. Having fleece or knitted blankets layered on your couch or rolled up in a basket near a comfy chair will add a warm luxurious feeling to your home. By mixing colors and textures you can easily add a taste of autumn no matter the color scheme.

Candles are an easy way to create an instantly cozy feeling in your home. Scented candles fill a room with intoxicating aromas and give off extra warmth with their soft flickering light. For a fresh scent that will make your home smell like Williams-Sonoma, try their classic recipe. Simmer a pot of boiling water and add 2 lemons (sliced), a tablespoon of vanilla extract, and 2 sprigs of rosemary. You will get hours of enjoyment.

Pumpkins and fall florals are another obvious choice for fall decorating, place some heirloom pumpkins as your table center pieces or on your mantle. Fresh florals or dried hydrangeas and other garden cuttings will liven up your space and display warm fall colors. You can even add a plaid table runner and birch log candle holders for depth of layers and fabric that feels warm

Cloches. These glass bell-shaped covers can be used to make a dramatic pop to your fall decor. Display various sized and colored pumpkins, acorns, or dried flowers. For a spookier version cut out bat shapes and hang with fishing line to give the appearance of bats flying in your house

String Lights. The soft glow of string lights seems to create an instant cozy ambiance to any space, indoors or out. Hang them on your porch, string them over an outdoor table or place fairy lights in cloches or lanterns to add some extra glow.

Whether it’s placing some beautiful mums on your front porch or adding different textured pillows and blankets to your favorite lounger – no matter how you decorate for fall, we hope the above ideas are helpful in making your home feel cozier.
