The Bluffs was designed to make the most of life on the water – from the almost 4-acre lake alongside our Clubhouse to the Cape Fear River (our northern boundary). This mile-long stretch of scenic, wooded riverfront offers high bluffs that lead down to the lush, rolling waters of the storied Cape Fear River. In this series we look forward to introducing you to some of the winding waterways and creeks in and around the Leland area. So, get ready to get out in nature, enjoy our mild year-round climate and take in the coastal wildlife our region has to offer.

To continue this series, we are heading out on Town Creek and Rice Creek. These blackwater creeks flow gently through 20 miles of cypress swamp, making them perfect for a quick scenic paddling adventure or a day trip outing. Head South on the Cape Fear River from our River Park Marina and you’ll make your way past Eagles Island. Just North of Campbell and Shark Tooth Islands you’ll go West up Town Creek. Boat launches are also available Brunswick Nature Park or Belville Riverwalk Park, and at the Rice Creek Boat Ramp you can begin your adventure on, you guessed it, Rice Creek. DIRECTIONS: US 17S to Governor’s Road near Winnabow, NC. Turn left on Governor’s Road; then left on Gordon Lewis Drive taking you to the NC Wildlife Commission Ramp.

Town Creek is a prime wildlife habitat and wetlands as much of it is protected. The North Carolina Coastal Land Trust has worked with both state and federal agencies, timber companies and private individuals to protect over 6,200 acres along Town Creek. Because of these efforts to protect our prized waterways, Town Creek is a wonderful location to view wildlife and birds that call the Cape Fear area home. This adventure is also ideal for those adventures who are new to kayaking. Town Creek is a slow moving blackwater stream that is easily padded by those new to kayaking adventures.
