Behind every front door at The Bluffs on the Cape Fear is a story—of where someone’s been, what they love, and why they chose to call this place home. Our Resident Stories series celebrates the people who make our community one of a kind. Meet Paul.

When our children grew up and left home, we knew it was time to turn the page and begin a new chapter. Leaving New Jersey behind, we set out in search of a quieter pace of life—and found it here at The Bluffs on the Cape Fear. From the moment we arrived, it felt like home. Surrounded by nature, embraced by a welcoming neighborhood, and with the beach only minutes away, it’s everything we had hoped for.

While our lifestyle here is more relaxed, I still continue the work that has been my lifelong passion: running my safari business. For over 30 years, I’ve been crafting customized journeys across Africa, and one of the questions I’m often asked is, “What should I expect on safari?”

Of course, the Big Five are always impressive. But the most unforgettable safari moments are often the ones you could never plan for—the sudden thrill of a large herd of elephants emerging during a bush lunch, or the breathtaking silence of gazing up at the Milky Way after dinner.

On a recent walking safari, we witnessed an incredible scene: a pack of wild dogs bursting into a full chase after an impala. The energy, the speed, and the raw power of the moment left us speechless. Experiences like these remind me why safaris can’t truly be captured in words or photos—you simply have to feel them for yourself.

Here at The Bluffs, life feels much the same. We came looking for peace, beauty, and connection, and found not only a new home but a community. Just like a safari, the best memories are the ones that surprise you.
