Greetings from 3738 Little Berry Place NE, Leland, NC. We are Jerry and Eileen Charest who located here from Tall Timbers, Maryland in January 2018. We are both retired; Jerry a retired Naval Officer/Aviator and later a “Beltway Bandit”, Program Manager supporting the U.S. Navy and Eileen a retired Teacher and later an Acquisition Professional employed by the U.S. Navy in support of the Naval Air Systems Command at the Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River, Maryland.
We started visiting the Wilmington area when our son, Tom, got a teaching position at New Hanover High School on Market Street in Wilmington. We had made several trips to the area and really enjoyed it. “The Bluffs on the Cape Fear” ran a promotional commercial on one of the local television stations in the Washington, DC area and we decided to take a look at the community. We had also looked at several other communities in the area such as Waterford and Magnolia Greens, but we were hooked on the “Bluffs” because of the many amenities that appealed to us. We were very impressed with the “Beach Club” house on Oak Island, the Olympic size swimming pool with lakeside clubhouse and bath house, tennis courts, a future RV/boat storage area, and the upcoming two acre riverfront park with boat launch, a pier for fishing and crabbing and a picnic area with fire pit, to name but a few of the existing/planned amenities.
After several more trips to the Wilmington and the “Bluffs”, we bought lot 16 in September 2006. Our original plan was to build and relocate by 2010; however, the economy went “belly up” in 2007/2008 delaying our plans. After paying POA dues for many years, we decided to build on our lot. We reviewed several builders and finally decided to utilize Southern Pines Homes, LLC because they had an onsite manager and we liked the floor plans offered. Construction was in early October 2017 and was completed in late January 2018, taking just four months. We are extremely pleased with our house and we are delighted to call “The Bluffs on the Cape Fear” community “HOME”.
